Small Garden With Rooms

Thame

Summary

This small garden has been created to provide ‘rooms’, with varied seating areas. Paths through the planting provide interest, resulting in a space that feels much larger than it is.

My clients loved the curved design I created for one of their neighbours and asked me to plan a garden for them. Permanent seating is provided by a curving stone bench with sleeper back. It has a gravel circle in front for placing a tripod BBQ/fire pit, a larger group can gather round by putting seats on the curve of the adjoining path. The bench structure will also add to year round interest in the garden.

Incorporating a patio on an upper level next to the summerhouse has helped to increase the feeling of space. The long pergola creates lovely focal points at both ends and is home for 2 hanging glass sculptures. Climbing roses and clematis will climb over it in time.

As keen gardeners my clients wanted as much planting space as possible in the garden. We chose perennials and shrubs mixed with airy grasses to provide the perfect backdrop for their standing glass sculptures.

Testimonial

When we moved to a brand new house, we asked Pippa to design our garden having loved the work she had done for a neighbour. The interactions right from the start of the project were very good. We have no hesitation in recommending Pippa. You will not be disappointed in both her imaginative ideas and the quality of her overall plans. When it came to building the design the landscapers were highly complementary on the quality of her technical plans. We are keen gardeners, Pippa has succeeded in combining the plants we were keen to have with ideas which she brought, producing a beautiful planting scheme which we are looking forward to enjoying for many years to come.
